“It Is Not An Easy Path, But It Is Possible” – Nikte Sotomayor

One of the best badminton players of Guatemala, Nikte Sotomayor has studies in Management of Sports Entities and in Social Legal Sciences. She came to badminton thanks to her parents, who were from the national basketball teams and influenced Nikte to practice a sport, she chose the best.

“The best thing that badminton has given me have been the good values, the experiences and especially the fact of representing my country and its culture.”

As every athlete, Nikte has dreams and works every day to achieve her own goals, both in badminton and in her personal life.

“I want to achieve my goal of going to the Olympic Games, becoming a better person and being able to inspire the Guatemalan population to follow their dreams and show that if you propose it is possible.

Difficulties arise when you least expect it, and Nikte, at 24, has faced several situations, some more complicated than others.

“Yes, I faced many obstacles. One of the biggest problems I faced was the injury I had two years ago that left me out of competition for 6 months. I had a complete rupture of the Achilles tendon, but with perseverance and effort I was able to recover and keep going.”

And although many times you think you will not achieve it or there are situations that you think are difficult to overcome, we can remember that other people have been able to get ahead of various problems, like Nikte, who today has something to share with all the women involved in our sport.

“It is not an easy path, but it is possible, if it is what you want, you will fight with all your strength to achieve it. In any area that you specialize, you want to be the best. And as people say: positive thinkers get powerful results.
