“Badminton Has Given Me Great Satisfaction” – Victoria Montero

Olympic Mexican badminton player and current Director of Sports for the State of Mexico, Victoria Montero, based on work, dedication and perseverance, has managed to fulfill her dreams.

Within the framework of International Women’s Day, Badminton Pan Am celebrates outstanding women in our sport through interviews throughout the month of March: the Pan Am Women’s Month.

Victoria Montero, Mexican medalist in the Pan Am Games and Central American Games champion, began in our sport at a very young age, this being the beginning of a beautiful story of effort and dedication for the development of badminton and the sport in Mexico.

“I started badminton when I was 8 years old, at the Toluca club, there was a group of kids who played, I was encouraged and that was when the sport caught me.”

Involved in the sport from there and based on a lot of effort, Montero became champion of the Central American and Caribbean Games in Mayagüez 2010, in singles, doubles and by Teams, and also achieved a bronze medal at the Pan American Games in Guadalajara 2011, achievements that allowed her to compete in the Olympic Games.

“Qualifying for the Olympic Games London 2012 has been one of my best sporting results, in addition to the gold medals in the Central American Games and the Pan American bronze medal.”

Her sports career has allowed her to learn in every situation she has experienced, be it triumphs or defeats, happy or sad moments, but which have shaped her character and have allowed her to have various opportunities in her life.

“Badminton has given me great satisfaction. Learning mainly about perseverance, discipline, affection for the family and building great bonds of friendship.”

Victoria is currently Director of Sports for the State of Mexico, an achievement that allows her to continue developing everything she has learned, to continue ensuring the development of sports in her country and to continue inspiring more people with her life story.

“Difficulties and obstacles will always exist; the important thing is to persevere and not give up for your dreams and goals. So, I would encourage everyone to fight for their dreams, nothing is impossible, and you can always achieve what you want.”
