Badminton Is Good for Everyone – Idia Loial

President of the Guadeloupe Badminton League, Idia loïal, is a badminton player and has presided over the league in her country since 2017, and strives to make our sport more popular in her community and for the children of Guadeloupe to find where practice badminton near their homes.

Idia met our sport at the university several years ago, and despite the fact that work, travel and children did not allow her to practice it for some years, she returned to meet our sport and now dreams of making it increasingly popular.

“My first contact with badminton was at university. After work, travel and the birth of my children, I could not continue playing for 10 years. In 2013, when one of my children practiced Judo, I found a place where people were playing badminton and I started again. Since then I have not stopped until now. In 2017 I was elected president of the league and we are working so that more people get to know badminton.”

Sport allows us to learn from the situations that we can live. Idia has experienced different situations, both as a player and manager, which have allowed her to have good experiences and has contributed to her personal development.

“The most important thing that badminton has given me is that my role as president forges my personality, by the decisions I have to make and the people I meet. All of this contributes in a good way to my personal and professional development. ”

Even though badminton is not a well-known sport in her country, Idia dreams with more places to practice it, and that children can enjoy the benefits that our sport can offer them.

“I would like to make badminton better known in my country, that children find a place near their homes to practice it and that badminton will be recognized as the other sports so that it can be more widely spread. The best thing would be to have an international competition in Guadeloupe, of a high level. Those are the objectives that I would like to achieve, for the benefit of sport in my country.”

Few women exercise leadership roles in our region, and Idia is one of them, and encourages more women to get involved in our sport, from different areas, to continue working for the development of badminton and themselves.

“Badminton is good for everyone. Whether you play alone or with someone, you are a coach or a manager, you are going to find what you are looking for in sports: pleasure, energy expenditure, friendship, etc. Of course, as in any place, you can’t get something if you don’t do anything. You have to work to see the results and see your projects move forward.”
