Canada’s First Uber Cup Quarter Finals

Canada’s women’s team reached Uber Cup Quarter Finals for the first time after beating Australia 4-1 in their final group tie at the TOTAL BWF Thomas & Uber Cup Finals 2018. They will now face Korea for the Semifinals pass.

Michelle Li played the opening singles against Wendy Chen. The Australian began winning the match but could not impose her game against ranked 14, Li, who ended up winning the match by 19-21, 21-16 and 21-19 after 1 hour of game.

Rachel Honderich does the same winning her match against Jennifer Tam in straight games (21-9 and 21-9) to put Canada 2-0 ahead.

Australia’s duo Somerville / Veeran got the first point for Oceania’s country after winning the first doubles match against Michelle Tong and Josephine Wu by 21-18 and 21-16.

Brittney Tam only needed 20 minutes to see Canada through to their first Uber Cup quarter-finals. Tam won her match by 21-9 and 21-5 against Lauren Lim.

Canadian duo Rachel Honderich / Kristen Tsai sealed the Pan American victory after 38 minutes of game, winning by 26-24 and 21-16 against Louisa Ma and Ann-Louise Slee.

Canada played its pass to this instance against Australia after defeating India (4-1) on the first date of competition, and falling to Japan, seeded 1, by 0-5.

Men’s Team could not overcome the Group Stage in which they faced Indonesia, Korea and host Thailand.

Those led by Mike Butler will face Korea from 9am (local time) on Thursday, May 24th. Let’s go Canada!
