The V Herbalife International Series Mayor took place from September 26 to 30, a tournament that brought together more than 100 badminton players from Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Cuba, Dominican Republic, India, Italy, Jamaica, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Portugal, Romania, Suriname, United States and host Guatemala.
The Teodoro Palacios Flores Arena saw once more the victories of the locals Kevin Cordon in Singles and Ruben Castellanos /Anibal Marroquin in Doubles. Cordon beat Timothy Lam (USA) in the final by 21-12 and 21-13. While the duo Castellanos / Marroquin did the same against Cubans Osleni Guererro and Leodannis Martinez for 21-12 and 21-17.
The final day began with the final match in Women’s Singles between young Canadians Talia Ng and Kathie Ho-Shue, both participated in the last Pan Am Junior Championships in July. The match ended favorably for Talia 21-14 and 21-16. Talia returned to repeat the gold in doubles with Josephine Wu, beating Eliana Zhang and Wendy Zhang (CAN) after 3 hard-fought games (14-21, 21-17 and 21-10).
The gold medal in Mixed Doubles was also for Canada. Joshua Hulburt-Yu and Josephine Wu beat the seeded 1, Leodannis Martinez and Taymara Oropesa by 21-12 and 21-18 in 26 minutes of play.
