Champions in Giraldilla – Pan Am Circuit 2019

The XX Giraldilla 2019 has new champions. Peruvian players stood out in this event, leading 3 of the 5 podiums. Mexico’s Job Castillo won gold in singles after defeating players from Guatemala, Cuba, United States and Azerbaijan and Cuba’s players proved to be local by climbing almost to every podium.

Daniela Macias (PER) won 2 gold medals and one silver after winning the Women’s Doubles Finals, with Danica Nishimura, Mixed Doubles, with Mario Cuba, and falling to Jordan Hart (WAL), who also conquered the Jamaica International 2019, in Singles.

In addition, the Peruvian players were crowned champions in Men’s Doubles. Jose Guevara and Daniel La Torre overtook local Leodannis Martinez and Angel Herrera in the final (28-26, 21-18), thus adding their first title at Pan Am Circuit 2019.

In Men’s Singles, seeded one Job Castillo (MEX) won his first title this year after beating Timothy Lam (USA) in Semifinals and Azmy Qowimuramadhoni (AZE) in the finals. Also, Mexico’s star Mariana Ugalde reach Semifinals and won her first bronze medal in the circuit.

Many local players excelled in this tournament. Led by Leodannis Martinez, the Cuban athletes managed to climb to 4 podiums, getting bronze and silver medals. Martinez reached the second place in Men’s Doubles with Angel Herrera and third place in Singles.

Our Pan Am players continue adding experience and score for the next international challenges such as the Pan Am Games 2019 and the start of the qualification period for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics Games.
