“There Are No Limits When You Want to Meet a Goal” – Connie Moreno (COL)

Connie Moreno, lawyer and public accountant, came to the badminton in a different way than usual and now is part of the Colombia Badminton Federation Executive Committee. Let’s learn more about her below.

Specialized in Sports Management, Connie is Chair of the Women in Badminton program of Badminton Pan Am and General Secretary of the Colombia Badminton Federation and, without having been involved in our sport before, she got to know badminton thanks to her professional career.

“Unlike other women who have somehow been linked to sports, whether as athletes or technicians, I have not been an athlete. I met badminton at an adult age. I started in the sports sector doing legal, administrative and financial advices as an external agent in Colombian sports federations and a non-profit entity called Colombia Sports Foundation. My management in these processes, as well as a new vision of the approach that federations should have from the point of view of technical, administrative, financial and legal, gave me the possibility of being taken into account to occupy a management position in the Colombian Federation of Badminton and as president of the Colombia Sports Foundation.”

Connie was also president of the Colombia Badminton Federation from 2014 to 2017 and decided to continue contributing to the Federation, a challenge that she took on behalf of the development of Colombian badminton.

“From the role I play I can continue to support social responsibility, through the inclusion, massification and development of badminton at the national level and in vulnerable areas attacked by violence and crime, motivating children to find in sports an alternative for their personal development.”

The years that Connie has been linked to our sport have given her many satisfactions, both in professional and personal areas.

“In addition to pleasant experiences, badminton has helped me grow professionally and as a person, to overcome my fears, and also to meet people linked to Badminton worldwide, creating strong bonds of friendship and, above all, the satisfaction of improving life quality for children living in vulnerable areas of Colombia, offering the alternative of being linked to badminton.”

And that is one of the approaches of the Colombia Badminton Federation work, to continue giving children the opportunity to improve their life quality through sports. Connie knows the importance of sport for the development of their country, that is why she has proposed “to continue to massify and develop Badminton in Colombia, so that it continues to grow, increasing the population of athletes and increasing participation in the technical and administrative part.”

The difficulties have not been alien to Connie’s life. Reaching the sports sector was difficult for her but little by little she moved forward and managed to lead the Federation.

“Every managerial position (president and general secretary) carries a great responsibility. I didn’t know or was linked to the sports sector, so I had to adapt to a new system. With support and my enthusiasm for learning, I managed to train me as a professional in the sports, reaching the leadership of the federation.”

The Women in Badminton program seeks to highlight and support the important role that women play in our sport. Connie, as Chair of the program and in her personal experience, wishes to share this message with each of the women involved in the sport:

“Before starting your development, you should know that you are capable of achieving great goals, do not be afraid to try new things and I invite you to take risks to have new experiences, there are no limits when you want to meet a goal.”
