Top Players for Pan Am 2019

The best badminton players of our region secured their presence at the upcoming XXIII Pan Am Individual Championships 2019, to be held in Aguascalientes, Mexico, from April 25 to 28.

Yesterday was the entries closing date and Barbados, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Jamaica, Panama, Peru, Suriname, United States, Venezuela and the host Mexico will have their best representatives in the competition.

Michelle Li, Ygor Coelho, Rachel Honderich, Kevin Cordon, Crystal Pan, Osleni Guerrero, Daniela Macías, Jason Ho-Shue. are some of the outstandings Pan Am Players that will be at Pan Am 2019.

In Singles, Pan Am Ranking number 1, Ygor Coelho, will seek the Pan-American crown for the third year in a row but will have Kevin Cordon (GUA), Pan Am Games Champion, Jason Ho-Shue (CAN), Pan Am Champion 2016, and Cuba’s Osleni Guerrero, Pan Am champion, who will also seek to recover the title of champions.

Michelle Li starts as favorite to add a new gold medal, however she will have to face Britney Tam (CAN), Champion in 2016, Crystal Pan (USA), Daniela Macias (PER), Fabiana Silva (BRA), among others. These days, Michelle is recovering from an injury that took her away from the BWF Tour a few weeks ago but hopes to have a great comeback at Pan Am Individual 2019.

Jason Ho-Shue and Nyl Yakura will seek their fourth Pan-American title in Men’s Doubles. The Canadian duo could once again face Phillip Chew and Ryan Chew repeating last year’s final. In addition, the duos Jonathan Solis / Rodolfo Ramirez (GUA), Osleni Guerrero / Leodannis Martinez (CUB) and Lino Muñoz / Job Castillo (MEX) will seek the podium again.

Canadian stars Rachel Honderich and Kristen Tsai, number 1 of Pan Am Ranking in Women’s Doubles, will compete in front of the outstanding duos Ariel Lee / Sydney Lee (USA), Daniela Macias / Danica Nishimura (PER), Isabel Zhong / Emily Kan (USA), Lohaynny Vicente / Luana Vicente (BRA), among others, in look for the best place on the podium.

In Mixed Doubles, Mexican duo Andres Lopez / Cynthia Gonzalez will look to get on the podium once again, as will Jonathan Solis / Diana Corleto (GUA) and Nyl Yakura / Kristen Tsai (CAN). Duos Mathew Fogarty / Isabel Zhong (USA), Ty Lindeman / Rachel Honderich (CAN) and Joshua Hulburt-Yu / Josephine Wu (CAN) will also fight for the Pan American podium.

Our athletes prepare to compete in this Pan Am Championships and continue adding points and experience with a view to the Pan Am Games 2019 and the start of the qualification period for Tokyo 2020.
