Champions in Mexico – Pan Am Circuit 2022

Pan Am Players from Brazil, Guatemala and USA won medals at the II Mexican International Challenge 2022, event which had participation of outstanding athletes from around the world.

The II Mexican International Challenge 2022, held from April 12 to 16, was the first event of the Pan Am Circuit developed this year and had live broadcast through Mexican Federation Youtube Channel.

Japanese players dominated the championship but athletes from our region also managed to get on the podium and stand out in each event.

From Brazil, Jonathan Matias won the silver medal in Men’s Singles after defeating players from Mexico, France, Japan and Spain but losing in the final against Minoru Koga (JPN). Jonathan’s performance was very good, managing to beat experienced athletes such as Job Castillo and Pablo Abian.

Jaqueline Lima got 2 bronze medals. Along with Samia Lima, both won the bronze in Women’s Doubles, and Jaqueline with Fabricio Farias did the same in Mixed Doubles.

Jennie Gai (USA) also stood in this event. Gai won a silver medal in Mixed Doubles along with Vinson Chiu after defeating duos from Brazil, Mexico and Germany but losing in the final against Yamada/Ikeuchi (JPN). Gai also got a bronze medal in Women’s Singles after defeating players from Mexico, Italy and Canada but losing in semifinals against Natsuki Nidaira (JPN).

In Women’s Doubles, Nicole Frevold and Ishika Jaiswal from USA also climb to the podium and won a bronze medal in this event. They defeated duos from Mexico, Italy and Peru but lost in semifinals against Sakuramoto/Suzuki (JPN).

Ruben Castellanos and Christopher Martinez (GUA) won a bronze medal in Men’s Doubles after defeating duos from Mexico, Brazil and Canada.

The Pan Am players are now preparing for the XXV YONEX Pan Am Individual Championships and for the next Pan Am Circuit 2022 event, the XII Santo Domingo Open 2022.
