The XI Suriname International tournament held at the facilities of the Ismay Van Wilgen Sporthal, in the city of Paramaribo-Suriname, ended last Saturday, November 18th.
The tournament brought together 77 athletes from the following 13 countries: Barbados, Brazil, Canada, Cuba, Guatemala, Guyana, French Guyana, Israel, Jamaica, Mexico, Peru, Portugal and host Suriname.
In Male Singles, the young Pan American champion Brian Yang (Can) who just turned 16 years old, took the gold medal by beating cuban Osleni Guerrero 12-21, 21-17, 21-14, in a match that lasted 40 minutes, while bronze medal was achieved by Leodannis Martinez (Cub) and Arthur Silva (Bra).
In Women Singles, cuban Tahimara Oropeza took gold by beating peruvian Fernanda Saponara 21-19, 21-8, while the bronze went to Haramara Gaitan (Mex) and Khateryne Wynter (JAM). Tahimara took his second gold in mixed doubles event paired with Leodannis Martinez by prevailing over the jamaican pair formed by Dennis Coke and Katheryne Wynter. The result was 21-16, 21-18.
In Male Doubles, the jamaican pair formed by Dennis Coke and Anthony Mc Nee was crowned champion by beating their compatriots Gareth Henry and Samuel O’Brien, 8-21, 21-19, 21-18, while in Women Doubles, the femenine pair Monyata Riviera and Tamisha Williams from Barbados, crowned champion by beating Crystal Leefmans and Priscilla Tjitrodipo from Suriname 21-17, 21-17.The bronze went to Carolyne Jameson / Sherifa Jameson and Shemara Lindveld / Santusha Ramzam. both pairs from Suriname.
