Juliana Viana Vieira completed her dream campaign at the Pan Am Badminton Championships 2025 in Lima, becoming the first Brazilian woman to win a title.
In the final on Saturday, Vieira stayed steady after losing the second game to Canada’s Zhang Wen Yu, powering ahead in the decider to take the match 21-19 15-21 21-8.
Vieira follows in the footsteps of Ygor Coelho, who won the men’s singles in 2017 and 2018.

Her compatriots Fabricio Farias/Davi Silva however could not top the podium in men’s doubles, as they fell 21-16 21-6 to defending champions Chen Zhi Yi/Presley Smith (USA).

Pan Am powerhouses USA and Canada returned home with two titles each. New pair Lauren Lam/Allison Lee took the women’s doubles crown for USA over top seeds Jackie Dent/Crystal Lai 21-11 21-13.

Canada’s Josephine Wu, who had only recently made a comeback from knee surgery, achieved a morale-boosting victory as she regained the mixed doubles title that she had last won in 2022. Wu and Ty Alexander Lindeman held off compatriots Jonathan Bing Lai/Crystal Lai 21-15 21-15. This is Wu’s eighth title overall – she now has five mixed doubles and three women’s doubles titles.

Canada were assured of the men’s singles title, with Victor Lai taking on Joshua Nguyen. In a 41-minute battle, Lai overcame his 19-year-old opponent, 21-9 21-18.
