- – Brian Yang (CAN) and Jennie Gai (USA) with team Alpha won the gold medal in Buenos Aires 2018.
- – Jaqueline Lima (BRA) also took the podium to get bronze medal along with the Theta team.
Our Pan Am Athletes, Brian Yang (CAN) and Jennie Gai (USA) were essential pieces for the Alpha team to get the gold medal in the Realy Team Event of the Youth Olympic Games 2018.
Alpha faced Omega in the final and Yang competed in singles and doubles, along with Vath from Cambodia, giving advantage to his team. Gai was able to maintain that important advantage and also won her singles match so that finally the score culminates 110 to 106 in favor of the Alpha team.
Brazil young promise, Jaqueline Lima and Theta team, faced Nairoby Jimenez (DOM) and Zeta team in the dispute for the bronze medal of the Relay Team Event. Both athletes started the match defending their teams in Doubles, this first game being favorable for Theta. However, our athletes met again in another Doubles match and this time the game was won by Zeta although Theta maintained the advantage in the overall score. Finally, Theta was left with the bronze medal after winning by 110 to 107.
The New Youth Olympic Champions won all the games from the group stage.
Li Shifeng (CHN) took the Olympic gold after beating Sen (IND) in a tight final. Li led group D of the Individual Event without losing a single match, and did the same in the following phases of the competition. The bronze medal was for Naraoka (JPN) who beat Merkle (FRA) to get on the podium.
In the women side, Jin Wei Goh (MAS) prevented China from winning its second gold medal and defeated Wang after 3 hard-fought games. Goh came to this instance after winning all of her matches in Group C and winning in 3 games to Chaiwan (THA), seeded 1 and 3rd place, in Semifinals.
The challenges for our young athletes continue as they will represent their countries and our continent in the upcoming Li Ning BWF World Junior Championships 2018, to be held in Markham, Canada, from November 12 to 18.
