Badminton and UMA Foundation – Santo Domingo

With the aim of bringing extra value to the national sport, the Dominican Badminton Federation started a pilot program together with the  Foundation (UMA)  ” A look of Love”  (Una Mirada de Amor),  in the framework of the celebration of the  first 17 provincial tournaments of the year and sponsored by the Ministry of Sports and the Japanese Cooperation Agency (JICA).

The integral development process has been coordinated by Linabel Cordones, Executive Director of “UMA”, and the support and validation of the Dominican Olympic Committe.

The first province in this process was Azua de Compostela with the participation of 102 athletes with their respective relatives and children on group dynamics that supported their spiritual, psychological and emotional growth.

After the introduction of the program, athletes started their qualifying tournament for the Regional Championship near by in the South, where a maximum of 48 young athletes will have the opportunity to face other athletes fromf Ocoa, Baní and San Cristóbal, next sunday 21 of May.

“We are bringing a little more than sport to our communities, we are sowing a legacy to properly shape the leaders of the present and future of our country,” said Generoso Castillo, President of FEDOBAD.

The team was integrated by teachers, Ito Kota (volunteer of JICA), Orlando Cala (cuban coach asigned by MIDEREC), Efraín Fabián (Regional Coordinator of FEDOBAD), and Arisleyda Matos and Alberto Sanchez, hosts as President and Secretary of the Azua Badminton Association respectively.

The next associations to be addresed will be San Pedro de Macoris and tha Roman on saturday 29 of april, Hato Mayor y El Seibo (Sunday 30), National District, Santo Domingo and San Cristobal (Saturday may 6)

“A look of love through badminton in DR” is a program that is developed in the 17 regions of the country, whose main objective is to bring development to dominican children through the strengthening of family relationships (single or mixed parents) using badminton as a channel to contribute to personal growth of each child in order to promote universal values ​​of: leadership, personal care, love thy neighbor, self-love, teamwork, discipline, self-esteem and Life Project, among others.

Breaking the cycle of poverty, promote the value of giving, gratitude for life, respect for oneself, respect for authority (father, mother, brothers, priests, leaders, teachers, heroes of the homeland).

Generate and stimulate participation in sports, education, culture, art, as a channel of learning, and mind expansion achieved through community teams and region leaders,  awake the desire to create harmony and beauty of their environment, their life and their community life, to connect with their heart with gratitude and joy for life.

To achieve a look of love for humanity to these communities with lack of material resources.
