Badminton at Bolivarian Games 2022

Starting with the Olympic cycle, the Bolivarian Games Valledupar 2022 had badminton at a great level, with the participation of players from Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador, El Salvador, Dominican Republic, Panama, Peru, Venezuela and host Colombia.

Badminton competition took place from June 25 to 29, highlighting the 5 gold medals obtained by Peru, the crown of Uriel Canjura (ESA) in Singles and the 3 silver medals of a host delegation (Colombia) that showed a good level of play.

Team Event

Peru started the competition wining the gold of the Team Event after defeating Ecuador (3-0) in the first round, El Salvador (3-2) in Semifinals and Colombia (3-0) in the Final.

Team Colombia reached the silver medal, being this result the first badminton medal for Colombia at the Bolivarian Games history. They defeated Chile (3-0) and Dominican Republic (3-2) to reach the final.

Dominican Republic got the third place after defeated Venezuela (3-2) in round one, lost against Colombia in Semifinals but won against El Salvador (3-2) in the bronze-medal-match.

Individual Event

Uriel Cajura (ESA) won the gold medal in Men’s Singles, the only event without peruvians in the final. In the final, Uriel defeated the surprise of the tournament, Miguel Quirama (COL). Quirama reached the silver medal after showing a great performance against Javier Alas (ESA), Alonso Medel (CHI), Ernick Zorrilla (DOM) and Jose Guevara (PER).

Ines Castillo (PER) won the triple-crown: Singles, Women’s Doubles with Paula La Torre and Mixed Doubles with Jose Guevara.

Maria Yulieth Perez (COL) also had a great performance in Singles after deafeating players from
Dominican Republic, Bolivia, Peru and Chile to reach the final and winning the silver medal. Namie Miyahira (PER) and Ashley Montre (CHI) won the bronze medals.

In Mixed Doubles, Colombia players took the 3/4 places of the event with Giraldo/Quirama and Berdugo/Perez, while Javier Alas and Fatima Centeno (ESA) won the silver medal after losing in the final against Guevara/Castillo (PER).

The young promise, Namie Miyahira (PER) not only won the bronze medal in singles, but also the silver in doubles along with Fernanda Saponara. the Women’s Doubles podium was completed by Giraldo/Perez (COL) and Hernandez/Centeno (ESA) who reached the 3/4 places.

In Men’s Doubles, Diego Mini and Jose Guevara (PER) got the gold medal after defeating Daniel La Torre and Diego Subauste (PER). Zambrano/Erben (ECU) and Alas/Canjura (ESA) won the bronze medals of the event.
