Canada Open – Pan Am Circuit 2019

From July 2 to 7, the YONEX Canada Open 2019, a BWF Tour Super 100 that was held in Calgary, Canada, with participation of more than 200 outstanding players who showed their best game.

Pan Am athletes had good perfomance at Canada Open 2019, being Canada’s stars Michelle Li, Rachel Honderich, Kristen Tsai, Joshua Hurlburt-Yu and Josephine Wu who reached quarterfinals.

 

Michelle Li started the tournament with victories against players from Korea and Chinese Taipei, but she can not overcome An Se Young (KOR), who won gold, in quarterfinals. Pan Am champions Joshua Hurlburt-Yu and Josephine Wu also beat duos from China and Chinese Taipei but it was not enough to reach the podium.

In Women’s Doubles, Rachel Honderich and Kristen Tsai defeat players from China and Chinese Taipei but an injury did not allow them to continue in the tournament.

Young athletes from China and Korea won in singles. Li Shi Feng (CHN) won the title in Men’s Singles and An Se Young (KOR), in Women’s Singles (featured image).

Australia duo Mapasa/Somerville won gold in Women’s Doubles, while, Denmark’s Boe/Conrad-Petersen did the same in Men’s Doubles.

Ko Sung Hyun and Eom Hye Won won the second gold for Korea in this event.

This Canada Open 2019 had a special moment in which our Pan Am athletes from Team Canada signed autographs and took photos with fans. They will represent Canada at Lima 2019 Pan Am Games looking for the gold in each modality.

The Pan Am Circuit will continue with the YONEX US Open 2019 this week, a HSBC BWF World Tour Super 300 tournament that will held in Fullerton, USA, and Pan Am players will continue adding points in the Road to Tokyo 2020 ranking.
