Para badminton athletes from Brazil, Peru and United States won medals at Canada Para badminton International 2019, held in Ottawa from May 7 to 12.
The first-ever Canada Para badminton International had almost 200 athletes competing in the Montpetit Hall, University of Ottawa, seeking the best results and add points in their road to Tokyo 2020.
From Pan Am, SS6 category shined with Giuliana Poveda (PER) who won the title in Singles and in Doubles with Katherine Valli (USA). Valli also won silver in singles and in Mixed Doubles with Miles Krajewski (USA). Also, Miles won bronze in Men’s Doubles along with Dae Sung Lee (KOR).
Also, USA athletes Jayci Simon and Colleen Gioffreda won the third place in Women’s Doubles and Simon with Jake Petruzzelli reach the same medal in Mixed Doubles.
Pilar Jauregui, Peruvian WH2 star, reached semifinals in Singles after defeat players from France, Spain and Chinese Taipei, but falling against Emine Seckin (TUR).
Our athletes will continue to look for their best level to compete in the next 2019 Para Pan American Games and look for the score needed to qualify for the next Paralympic Games 2020.
