Pan Am players from Cuba, Guatemala, Jamaica and Peru won medals at the XXI Torneo Internacional de Badminton de Giraldilla de la Habana 2023, held in Giraldilla, Cuba, from March 14 to 19.

After several years, Giraldilla received the badminton event again with this traditional tournament, winning several medals for Cuba.
Locals Taymara Oropesa and Yeily Ortiz won the crown in Women’s Doubles. They defeated seeded 1 duo, Ines Castillo/Paula La Torre (PER) in Semifinals and Mariana Paiz/Alejandra Paiz (GUA) in the final.
Yeily also won a bronze medal in Singles, event that was dominated by Hristomira Popovska (BUL). Ines Castillo reached the silver medal while Rafaela Munar won bronze.
In Mixed Doubles, Christopher Martinez and Mariana Paiz won the silver medal, while the bronze medals were for Samuel Ricketts/Tahlia Richardson (JAM) and Diosbel Tamayo/Nayibis Reyes (CUB).
Samuel Ricketts also won a gold medal in Men’s Doubles along with Koon Fung (ENG). They started the tournament as seeded 2 duo and defeated pairs from Canada and Guatemala to reach the final, where they defeated Aria Dinata/Filio Spoljarec (CRO) in a 3-games-match. Yeison Del Cid/Christopher Martinez and Jose Luis Granados/Antonio Ortiz reached the 3/4 places of the event.
The Men’s singles Event were for Indonesians Muhamamad Halim (gold) and Muhammad Sultan (silver). Daniil Dubovenko (ISR) and Iliyan Stoynov (BUL) won the bronze medals.
The Pan Am Circuit 2023 will continue with the XXVI YONEX Pan Am Individual Championships 2023 in April and the Mexican International Challenge next May.
