Pan Am players from Brazil, Canada, Cuba, Guatemala, Jamaica and Peru took the podiums of the XXII Torneo Internacional de Badminton Giraldilla 2024, future series event held in La Habana, Cuba, from March 13 to 17.

Local star Taymara Oropesa, bronze medalist at Pan Am Games 2023, managed to win the gold medal in singles and the silver one in doubles.
Starting the WS competition as seeded 2, Oropesa defeated athletes from Peru, Guyana and Ireland to reach the final and defeated Nikte Sotomayor (GUA) in a 3-games-match. Tahlia Richardson (JAM) and Noble (IRE) got the bronze medal fot he event.
Along with olympian Fabiana Silva (BRA), Taymara Oropesa won the silver medal in Women’s Doubles after losing the final against Diana Corleto and Mariana Paiz (GUA). The Guatemalan duo reached the gold medal after defeating 3 duos from Cuba, showing great performance to reach the final and defeat Oropesa/Silva in a 3-games-match. Bronze medals of the event were for Rafaela Munar/Fernanda Munar (PER) and Leyanis Contreras/Maidalis Zamora (CUB).
Chritopher Martinez and Mariana Paiz won the gold medal in Mixed Doubles. Roberto Herrera and Leyanis Contreras got the silver while Ramiro Espinoza(GUA)/Rafaela Munar(PER) and Easton Watson/Katie Watson (CAN) won the bronze medals.
For the Male side, Samuel Ricketts (JAM) won the gold in Singles after defeating players from Cuba, Guatemala and Malta. In the final, Ricketts defeated Yeison Del Cid (GUA) in a tough 3-games-match to ensure the podium top. Roberto Herrera (CUB) and Abela (MAL) reached the 3/4 places of the event.
Christopher Martinez got his second gold medal in this competition along with Yeison Del Cid after defeating Jose Luis Granados/Antonio Ortiz (GUA) in the final. Ramiro Espinoza(GUA)/Alejandro Chueca(PER) and Juan Bencomo/Roberto Herrera (CUB) got the bronze medals.
The XXII Torneo Internacional de Badminton Giraldilla 2024 is the first event of the Pan Am Circuit 2024, which now will continue with the XXVII YONEX Pan Am Individual Championship 2024 in April and the IV Mexican International Challenge 2024 in May.
