Champions in Santo Domingo – Pan Am Circuit 2023

The Brazilians Jonathan Matías and Juliana Vieira were crowned Champions of the XIII Santo Domingo Open 2023, which took place at the Gioriver Arias Volleyball Palace, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, with the participation of 139 athletes from 15 nations, and with the collaboration of the Badminton Pan Am Confederation and the Dominican Republic Olympic Committee.

Matías (BRA), who had lost in the first round the previous year, won a battle of three games and one hour and six minutes of match against Marck Shelley Alcala (USA) with a score of 17-21, 21-12 and 21-7. The bronze medals went to Fabio Caponio (ITA) and Joel Koeing (Switzerland).

Vieira (BRA) on her side, who lost in the quarterfinals last year, was crowned by winning in twenty minutes against her compatriot Samia Lima, 21-7, 21-3. Bulgarian Hristomira Popovska and Guatemalan Nikte Sotomayor placed third and fourth respectively.

In the Men’s Doubles event, the Mexicans Job Castillo and Luis Montoya won the 3-games-match in one hour and three minutes over the Brazilians Fabricio Farias and David Silva, (23-21, 15-21, 21-19). The semifinalists of this step were the Peruvians Diego Mini and José Guevara, and the British Koon Fung Kevin Ho and the Jamaican Samuel Ricketts.

In Mixed Doubles, the Algerians Koceila and Tanina Mammeri defeated the Mexican duo Luis Montoya /Miriam Rodríguez, in 26 minutes with a score of 21-13, 21-19. The 3/4 places were for the Brazilians Fabricio Farias and Jaqueline Lima, and David Silva and Sania Lima.

The day closed with another Brazilian victory in the Women’s Doubles final, when Juliana Vieira joined the youngest of the Limas (Sania), to dominate her teammates, Jaqueline and Samia Lima, in straight games of 21- 16, 24-22. The bronze medals of the event were for Haramana Gaitan and Sabrina Solis (MEX) and Gabriela Barrios and Margareth Revelo, from El Salvador.

The Pan Am Circuit will continue with the Peru Future Series 2023 and the Guatemala Junior International this week. Good luck to all participants.
