Champions of Group 2 – Sudirman Cup 2019

Canada beat France 3-1 and reached Group 2 first place at TOTAL BWF Sudirman Cup 2019.

Nanning, China, has witnessed the good performance of Team Canada in the Sudirman Cup, who closed their participation beating France by 3 to 1 adding their fourth consecutive victory in the tournament.

Michelle Li, Brian Yang and Rachel Honderich / Kristen Tsai guided the Canadian victory. The tie began with the Men’s Doubles match where France added its first and only point. Jason Ho-Shue & Nyl Yakura could not overcome and lost 17-21 and 16-21 to Gicquel / Labar.

Pan Am Champion Michelle Li started the comeback by beating categorically (21-7 and 21-4) to Yaella Hoyaux. Brian Yang also won the Singles match (21-14 and 21-12) putting the overall score in favor of Canada.

Top Pan Am duo Honderich/Tsai sealed the victory (3-1) against Lefel/Delrue by 21-11 y 21-17.

Canada won the first place in Group 2B after beating Singapore by 3 to 2 in a tough showdown, Israel 5-0 and Germany by 3 to 2. Then, the Pan Am Team competed against France, first of group 2A, for the best position in the Group 2 and 13th of the tournament.

The team led by Mike Butler and Jennifer Lee, consists of Michelle Li, Jason Ho-Shue, Rachel Honderich, Nyl Yakura, Kristen Tsai, Brian Yang, Brittney Tam, Joshua Hurlburt-Yu, Josephine Wu, B.R. Sankeerth and Duncan Yao, and will continue their preparation for the next Pan American Games Lima 2019.
