The first national Para – Badminton tournament was held in the city of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, from June 2 to June 4th. The categories played in this event were SL3 A, SL3 B and SL4 with a total of 11 athletes.
The following athletes demonstrated their skills at court : Odalis Gomez, Emmanuel Javier, Keni Junior Colomez, Jerri Zorrilla, Francis Brito, Jhonatan Pusten, Starling Peña, Yorayda Tejeda, Victor Ramirez, Kendry Paulino, Dagoberto Camacho.
The Dominican Badminton Federation along with the Alliance for People with Disabilities, have created a special commission led by Teacher Alberto Almanzar to strengthen the development of Para – Badminton in Dominican Republic.
