The BWF World Senior Championships 2023 had former Pan Am stars featuring among the winners.
Between 1260 participants competing in 10 age categories, Pan Am players like Tony Gunawan, Derrick NG, Pai Hsiao Ma, Siew Har Hong and Katy Li reached medals in this event.
Olympics and World Championships winner Tony Gunawan (USA) partnered Olympic silver medallist Tri Kusharjanto to the men’s doubles 45 title. Interestingly, Kusharjanto’s Olympic silver and World Championships bronze were in mixed doubles. Gunawan was Kusharjanto’s teammate in Indonesia before he relocated to the USA in 2001, after which he won his World Championships gold in 2005.
Pan Am Championships multimedalist, Derrick Ng (CAN), won bronze medal in men’s singles 35 and silver medal in mixed doubles 35 along with Pai Hsiao Ma (USA) in her debut as US representative in this BWF World Seniors Championships.
Siew Har Hong (CAN), World Senior medalist in past editions, won the women’s singles 70 bronze medal, while Katy Li (USA) did the same in women’s doubles 40 along with Wen Cheng (TPY).
