Yesterday started the 11th edition of the Para-Badminton World Championships which takes place from November 22 to 26 at the facilities of Dong Chung Gymnasium, Uslan-Korea. There are 268 athletes from 41 countries competing in 22 events, who come together in this race that is also the biggest in history.
Athletes from Guatemala, Peru, Brazil, Canada and the United States are participating from our continent. Also participate in the Classifier Workshop Tatiana Merino from Chile and a representative from Canada. The Workshop for Referees and Technical Delegates includes Federico Valdez, Jeff Bell and Enrique Charadán from Peru, Canada and Cuba respectively, as well as the Cuban referee Miguel León.
Our athletes started an excellent first day , the couple formed by Marcelo Alves Conceicao (BRA) and Pilar Jauregui (PER) won Italians Yuri Ferrigno and Marcela Li Brizzi, 21-5, 21-6 in the XD WH1-2 event, they also won their second match against Stephen Duran (FRA) and Esther Torres (SPA), 24-22, 21-9.
Giuliana Poveda (PER) and Niall Mcveigh (IRE) triumphed in their 3 matches, the first against Alexander Mekhdiev (RUS) and Deidre Nagle (SCO), 21-12, 21-10, the second match against Paul Doling (ENG) and Randika Doling (SRI) 21-4, 21-6 in XD SS6 event, and in the third one they beat the Indian couple conformed by Raja Magotra and Ruhi Satish Shingade 21-12, 21-5.
On the other hand in MS SL4 event, Raul Anguiano (GUA) beat Hugo Saumier (FRA) 10-21, 21-12, 21-17, in WS SS6 event, Giuliana Poveda (PER) beat Yasmina Eissa (EGY), 21-13, 21-14, Pascal La Pointe (CAN) defeated Bobby Griffin (ENG), 21-13, 21-17 in MS SL4 event and Pilar Jauregui (PER) defeated Tatiana Greeva (Russia) 21-15, 23-21 in the WS WH2 event.
Today, second day of competence, the couple Marcelo Alves Conceicao and Pilar Jauregui returned to win, this time to the Israeli couple Amir Levi and Nina Gorodetzky, 21-15, 13-21, 21-13 in XD WH1-2, likewise, Marcelo Alves Conceicao beat Michael Smith (IRE) 21-0, 21-2, in the MS WH1 event, while Giuliana Poveda (PER) and Niall Mcveigh (IRE) beat Mark Joseph Dharmai (IND) and Maria Bartusz (POL) 22-20, 21-13 in XD SS6 event. Pilar Jauregui (PER) won Spanish Esther Torres, 21-14, 21-10 in WS WH2 event.
