Pilar Jauregui, Para badminton Pan Am champion, started in 2014 with adapted sports and after knowing basket and wheelchair tennis, she was invited to practice Para badminton, a sport that made her fall in love and with which she committed herself to achieve more medals for Peru.
“The best thing that Para badminton has given me is the opportunity to grow as an athlete, becoming one of the best in the world in this sport, thanks to the support provided by Badminton Pan Am and Peruvian Federation. This is crucial for every athlete, because with maximum effort in the preparation and support of coaches and managers, better results are achieved. “
“Ambassador of the next Para Panam Games Lima 2019, Pilar is number one in the Pan American Ranking, in the WH2 category, and clearly knows how far she wants to go with our sport.
“I want to get more trophies for my country at the Pan-American, World and Paralympic levels, and I would also like to support the formation of new athletes for Peru.”
Dreams often seem impossible because of different circumstances that arise in life. Pilar has also experienced obstacles in her path and each of the medals she has obtained has cost her a lot of effort and sacrifice.
“As a woman and as a Para-athlete, there are many obstacles to overcome: from everyday problems for transporting yourself in the city, with wheelchairs and equipment to the training sites, and having a special budget for transportation and equipment, to rearrange other personal objectives as studies and family life. In this, the initial support to achieve the first results is key. With the first medals, the collaborations are added. Believe it or not, moral support and recognition of people is also very important and motivating.”
Many difficulties have arisen in the life of Pilar, both as a para-athlete and as a woman. Undoubtedly, over the years, she has been able to overcome the obstacles that are presented to her day by day and therefore she has an important message to tell us:
“Based on my personal experience, I would assure you that there are no limits for dreams, there are no impediments when we put ourselves to work with a lot of effort, with faith in ourselves and with the best attitude towards life.”
