Pan Am athletes had outstanding performances in the tournament in the VII Spanish Para-Badminton International 2018, held from 8 to 11 March in Mallorca, Spain.
Peru’s Giuliana Poveda, current Para-Badminton World Championships runner-up and Champion in the World Dwarf Games 2017, won the first place in Women Singles SS6 after beating Rachel Choong (ENG), BWF Ranking number 1, in the Final. Giuliana started winning the first game by 24-22, Choong could not continue the match and retired in the second game, giving the victory to the peruvian. Poveda reached the final after being first in Group A where she beat her similars from Scotland, Poland and England and overcome Yasmina Eissa (EGY) in Semifinals.
In Mixed Doubles, Poveda and Jesus Salva (PER) won the bronze medal after finishing second in Group B and falling in Semifinals against the tournament duo number one Andrew Martin and Rachel Choong (ENG), who won the gold medal.
Further, Pilar Jauregui (PER) in WH2, Pedro Pablo De Vinatea (PER) in SL3, Vitor Gonçalves Tavares (BRA) in SS6 and Eduardo Oliveira in SU5 reached tournament Quarterfinals.
The VII Spanish Para-Badminton International 2018, that counted with the participation of our athletes from Brazil, Peru and the United States, was the first tournament of the year for our Pan-American athletes who continue in constant preparation for the Pan Am Para Badminton Championship to be played in Lima, Peru next November.
