World Cup to Usher in New Era for AirBadminton

Text by BWF

AirBadminton is set to enter a new era with the inaugural BWF AirBadminton World Cup scheduled to take place from 13 to 16 November 2025 in the United Arab Emirates.

The World Cup is among several of BWF’s initiatives in the development of a full-fledged AirBadminton circuit.

Continental Championships

Four Continental Championships taking place this year will serve as qualifying events for the AirBadminton World Cup; teams from Asia and Oceania will compete at the Asia Pacific Championships. The hosts for the four Continental Championships are Peru (Pan Am), Malaysia (Asia Pacific), Azerbaijan (Europe) and Ghana (Africa).

The tournaments will include the following events: team relay, women’s triples and men’s triples.

The top three teams from the team relay event at the Asia and Europe championships, the top two teams from the Africa and Pan Am championships, and the Oceania champions, apart from the hosts (total of 12 teams) will qualify for the BWF AirBadminton World Cup 2025. Those who have qualified for the team relay competition must also enter for the men’s triples and women’s triples competitions.

World Cup

The following events will be played at the BWF AirBadminton World Cup 2025: team relay, women’s triples and men’s triples.

In the team relay event, each tie will consist of four matches: women’s doubles, men’s doubles, women’s triples and men’s triples. The tie will be played in a relay format, with  each match played until one team reaches 15 points, followed by 30 points, 45 points and 60 points; the team reaching 60 points first will win the tie.

In men’s and women’s triples, the match will be played for best of five games, with each game played to nine points.

Other AirBadminton Tournaments

With the 2025 AirBadminton Competition Structure in place, BWF’s goal is to expand the tournament framework, offering more opportunities for Members, teams, and players to participate in BWF Sanctioned tournaments, ultimately establishing an inclusive national and international competitive ecosystem for AirBadminton.

Further, Members who wish to organise regional and international tournaments may contact BWF.

BWF will continue supporting national AirBadminton tournaments and will launch the second edition of the Equipment Support Programme in May.
